Frequently asked questions

Can I do a Specialist assessment only?
YES. This path is most suitable for those:
- wanting College feedback on their comparability to an Australian trained specialist
- those whose Due Diligence shows they would NOT be suited to an Area of Need role
- who know their College will require upskilling in a Public Health facility
- want to explore Public Health roles
Can I do an Area of Need assessment only without a Specialist assessment?
NO.
However, many Colleges enable a dual Specialist and Area of Need assessment.
Can I do an Area of Need assessment at a future time to a Specialist assessment?
GENERALLY YES.
The definite answer will depend on the outcome of your Specialist Assessment.
What is the difference between Specialist, Area of Need and Post-Graduate Training?
GOOD QUESTION!
Specialist assessment is to determine your "comparability" to that of an Australian trained specialist. The assessors focus on:
- content of your training
- duration of training
- supervised practice during training
- the timing and nature of examinations
Area of Need assessment is to determine your "suitability" for a role in a practice. The assessors focus on:
- your skill set
- the skill of the practice
- and compare both
BOTH of the above are via ZOOM or TEAMS with the assessors.
Post-Graduate training or Supervised practice determines your suitability for a training role under supervised practice. The assessors focus on:
- your level of training
- whether you have completed specialist qualifications
- the training regime of the Australian practice
- patient safety and supervision
This is a PAPER BASED assessment. It is approved for one year. It can be extended to two years by application and approval.
